Bathroom renovation: Before
20 Feb
Peter and I are so excited – next week, we’ll be getting some builders in for the first time in a year. We’ve been muddling along doing everything ourselves since then, laying the floor, doing skirting boards, putting up shelves, etc. But when it came to doing the bathroom renovation, we decided to save until we could get someone in.
It’s not a terrible bathroom as it is, in terms of appearance, but it is very small and the colour makes it feel quite dingy. Also, the floor tiling was all laid without any kind of underlay and the wrong type of grouting. This means that the grouting has all cracked over the years, and makes a horrible crunchy noise when you walk on it!
Neither of us was confident that our tiling skills would be up to it, and we also need a lot of plumbing work done, as well as a new radiator. We had a few quotes in from builders, and decided to use someone my parents have used before. He’s a bit more expensive, but not vastly, and hopefully the finish will be better. We did a lot of research into what type of bathroom we wanted, and where we could get the cheapest supplies, but sadly bathroom renovation, like full-on kitchen renovation, is not cheap. That said, I think we managed to get some pretty good deals.
So, without further ado, here are the “before” shots. I’ll share some of the after shots once it’s all finished!

Some of the bits going into the new bathroom:

Shown: Metro tiles / Really big floor tiles / Storage sink / Mirrored cabinet
Not shown: New radiator / Super large mirror / Bathtub
What do you think? Is it weird that I am SO EXCITED about a bathroom? I can’t wait to see what it looks like when it’s all done!

Look forward to seeing the result, liking the different elements you’re going to put in there!
